Motorcycle racer Stephen Walsh offers performance psychology sessions

Ardfert-based motorcycle racer Stephen Walsh, one of three local riders to compete in the Manx Grand Prix year, is offering three one-hour performance psychology sessions tailored for motorsport competitors.
These sessions aim to develop critical psychological and leadership skills in motorsport athletes, helping them manage the demands of their high-pressure environments.
The session will take place over consecutive Monday nights in Tralee in early January – dates and venue will be announced in due course.
Walsh, a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University, has designed the sessions to integrate key psychological strategies for enhancing performance, with an emphasis on social identity and leadership in motorsport.
The first session will focus on mental skills for peak performance in motorsport
Key topics include focus and concentration, stress and anxiety management, and visualisation and mental rehearsal.
Session two will explore how social identity influences individual and team dynamics in motorsport, focusing on the relationship between drivers, co-drivers, and teams.
The final class will develop leadership skills and resilience within motorsport settings, including the ability to lead a team.
Walsh believes that these sessions can provide motorsport athletes with the tools they need to succeed at the highest level. By developing their psychological and leadership skills, they can better manage the challenges and pressures of their sport.
Just as newspapers and magazines are paid for, digital editorial content will also have to be paid for.
