Denny Greaney part of history making three-car family rally team in Clare

Cordal-based co-driver Denny Greaney was part of the three-car family team that made Irish motorsport history at the Clare Forestry Rally on Sunday.

Greaney was co-driving for Ennis-based John O’Sullivan in a Citroen C2 R2.

John’s son Niall and co-driver Frank Byrnes were also competing in a Peugeot 208 Rally4 while Niall’s daughter Kayla and co-driver Seanie O’Crowley made her debut in the Junior 1000 class in a Peugeot 107.

It is believed that this is the first time that three generations of the same family competed in the same rally. All three crews made the finish.

Also in the Junior 1000 class, Frank Wharton and Meabh Griffin made the finish in their Toyota Aygo one place ahead of  David Slattery and Ger Somers in their Hyundai i10.

County Cavan’s Kyle Drury and Adrian Foley were also competing in the junior class. Foley’s father hails from the Fybough area of Castlemaine.

Louise Bourke was on co-driving duty for Tom Kenneally in a BMW M3 Compact and they finished third in class 14.

Siblings Maurice and Megan Costello were ninth in their class in a Ford Fiesta Rally 4.
