50 years of the VW Golf to be celebrated at racecourse car show
Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club will celebrate 50 years of the Volkswagen golf next month.
The club’s annual car show, on July 7, will have a dedicated show area show owners of each model from the last half century can display their car.

Mass production of the first model generation began at Volkswagen’s main plant in spring 1974. Eight models later the Golf remains one of the most popular cars on Irish roads.

“The Golf is at the heart of the Volkswagen brand and has stood for affordable mobility at the highest technical level for half a century. It is the Germans’ favourite car, it has shaped a whole generation, created a new vehicle class and established itself as an international bestseller in over 70 countries with more than 37 million units sold. We love the Golf,” said Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer earlier this year.
The club is inviting owners of cars of 20 years or older to its Killarney Racecourse event on July 7.
Entry fee to the family friendly days is by donation with all profits donated to a yet to be nominated charity.
