Tralee motorcycle racer Darragh Crean is targeting a top-ten finish in his third outing in the British Superbike Championship this weekend.

Crean is contesting the Sportbike Class in the BSB for the first time this year on an Aprilia RS660 run by Dublin-based DJ Racing.

On his previous two events, in Oulton Park and Donington Park, Crean finished 11th and 13th respectively.

The championship moves to Knockhill in Scotland this weekend.

“Top 20 finishes was the target at the start of the year,” he said. “The hardest part of it is learning a new track every time. The pace over there is nuts but every weekend I am learning something new.”

Crean’s crew chief for the entire season is Ballymac-based motorcycle tuner John O’Grady.

“John’s experience is key to this. His knowledge and experience are second to none. I am on a really good pace and a lot of that is down to bike set-up. My own fitness has never been better.” added Crean. “

“I could not do this without Danny and Jamie Breen of DJ Racing. They secured some big sponsorship from Elcofire and Husqvarna Ireland.”

As well as entering BSB rounds Crean has ambitions to race in the Manx Grand Prix in August.

He has an entry has already been accepted for the second biggest bike race on the Isle of Man after the famous TT Races.

Crean has yet to decide on what bike he will use in the Isle of Man later in the summer and is divided between the Aprilia RS660 he uses in Britain or the Kawasaki 660 he rode at the Cookstown 100 in April.
