Kerry riders shine at round two of the National Motorcycle Racing championships

The second race weekend of the Principal Insurance Masters National motorcycle racing championships took place at Mondello Park last weekend and there were plenty of Kerry success stories across all the major classes.
Honda VFR NC30 rider Andrew Murphy too three race wins out of three starts in the Moto GP class.
“Pole position and three wins from three, can’t get much better than that,” said Mountcollins-based Murphy.
Emmet O’Grady had a busy weekend racing in both the Supersport and Superbike classes over the weekend.
In the 600cc Supersport class, onboard a Honda CBR, he took three second places.
In all three races he battled from lights to flag with his AKR Racing teammate Oisin Maher but the Tipperary-based rider got the upper hand on all three occasions.
“I pushed him all the way. The second race was red0flagged with two laps to go and in the third race I just lost out to backmarkers. To be fair to him, he led it, there was nothing between us for the whole thing.”
His weekend in the TAG Racing Honda CBR 1000 got progressively better.
Fourth in the opening races, he was third in race two and second in the final dice of the meeting.
“We are definitely going in the right direction and delighted to be bringing home trophies. A big thanks to all the local sponsors that help me out, cannot do it without them,” he said.
Alex O’Grady scored his first-ever podium in Supersport Cup class.
Riding a Suzuki GSXR 600 he failed to finish race one but things got a lot better after that.
“The DNF in race one was due to a mechanical issue,” he said. “Then I had a fourth and third-place finish. I am very happy with how the weekend went. I set a target for myself coming into the weekend and ended up exceeding it.”
There were top ten finishes for Tom McElligott Sr too. The Suzuki SV rider finished seventh in race one before taking two ninth-place finishes in the remaining races in the Production Twin Class.
