Two Kerry motorcycle racers made their Australian race debuts last weekend.

Both Anthony O’Carroll (Ballyduff) and Dylan McElligott (Kilflynn) took part in a race meeting at the Sydney Motorsport Park on Saturday night.
Billed as a ‘come and try’ event, it was also the first time the two Kerry riders competed under floodlights.
O’Carroll borrowed Tom McElligott’s (Dylan’s brother) Honda CBR 600.
Not fully on terms with Australian rules, he was late out of his garage and had to start his first race from the pitlane. His experience showed,
“I passed 19 bikes to finish 10th matching the leader’s lap time,” said O’Carroll who improved as the meeting went on.
“In race two, I started 12th and moved to a comfortable third. I battled with two 1000cc bikes for the lead and got to second. I thought the race was over a lap early and fell back to seventh and battled back to third again only to get piped in the line by a 1000cc bile and finish fourth. In my last race, I started 12th again and finished second.”
McElligott enjoyed the experience.
“In my four races I came third once and had three fourth places,” he said.
“It was strange racing under lights with all the shadows around me. You would think there are bikes coming up both sides of you, when it is just you. It was a good experience and has given me more of a drive for the next rounds.”
