Perth-based Kerry co-driver Murish O’Connell gives his thoughts on the opening round of the Australian Rally Championship

We’re starting our season with the first round of the ARC, in Canberra this weekend . (5-7th April )
The Killarney Autos Racing team is making the long journey from Perth .
For this event , it will be a three-car team .
Dave and Kelly Thomas will debut their newly built BRZ in the 2WD Championship .
Shane Smith and Wayne Richardson , as well as Frank O’Shea and myself, will compete in the Production Cup category in WRXs.
The Production Cup has a record number of entries so the competition will be fairly hot .

These ARC events are great to keep learning and challenging yourself to build up the speed .
We’ll try and learn as much as we can, and definitely have as much craic as possible while we’re at it !
Again it’s a different type of rally , this one looks more-bumpy and a loose surface compared to the high speed smooth roads we had in Adelaide.
There’s a good buzz around rallying here at the moment. Lots of new cars and a few former champions returning has raised the profile again .
Molly Taylor is back doing a full season in Production Cup , Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia have 2 brand new GR Yaris Rally2s for the year and there is added depth with multiple Hyundai , Skoda and Ford Rally2 cars now so the ARC is going from strength to strength.

It could be a good season .
