Anthony O’Carroll will return to the Manx Grand Prix this year

Anthony O’Carroll will return to the Manx Grand Prix this year and will race for the legendary Team ILR.

Manx TT legend Ian Lougher founded Team ILR after he retired from racing in 2015.

The Welshman is noted for his eight victories in the Northwest 200, 10 wins at the Isle of Man TT Races and 32 wins at the Southern 100 Races in his career.

From those early beginnings, both Lougher and his team have gone on to become highly respected in race paddocks around the world.

Last week Team ILR with Frog Vehicle Developments announced its nine-rider line-up for 2024, a season in which the team will mainly target the Isle of Man TT, the Southern 100, the Manx GP, and events at  Oliver’s Mount in Yorkshire.

Lougher has selected three Irish riders to ride for his team this year across a varied programme of race meetings.

Limerick man James Chawke will ride a Honda CBR600RR in the Supersport class in the blue riband  TT races in June.

Jacque Foley from Scariff in County Clare will return to the Junior Support Manx in August on a Paton and he will also compete at Oliver’s Mount and the Southern 100.

Lougher explained why he chose O’Carroll for the season ahead.

“Joining Foley at the Manx Grand Prix will be fellow Irishman Anthony O’Carroll from Ballyduff in County Kerry, who will compete on a Paton S1-R [in the Junior support race] and Honda CBR600RR [in the Senior support race],” said team principal.

“O’Carroll scored a double at the Armoy Road Races last year when he was successful in the Junior and Senior Support Races, and on his debut at the Manx Grand Prix he created his own slice of history when he became the first Kerry rider to finish a race on the Isle of Man when he scored an impressive 14th place finish in Senior Manx Grand Prix.”

O’Carroll is currently based in Australia and will compete in circuit races there ahead of returning home in time for the Manx Grand Prix in August.
