Murphy to  make Isle of Man debut this year

Andrew Murphy has been invited to participate in the Manx Grand Prix this August.

The Mountcollins-based rider received confirmation from race organisers last week that his application to race in the Lightweight class has been accepted.

In preparation for the August 18 to 26 event, he will now have to visit the island on at least three separate occasions this year.

Race officials told him he would have to commit to travelling to the Isle of Man for one-to-one training “with dedicated, experienced coaches, all of whom have competed around the TT Course to improve his knowledge of the iconic 37¾ mile Course.”

He will also be required to attend two training weekends and attend the race’s official assessment weekend on July 6 and 7.

Murphy, a front runner in the 400cc and 600cc classes at Mondello Park will also have to participate in some Northern Irish road races this season to build up his closed-road motorsport experience.
