Kerry MEP optimistic for purchase of Conor Pass
Seán Kelly, MEP for Ireland South, has expressed optimism as the Government moves closer to securing the picturesque Conor Pass in Co Kerry. “The negotiations, ongoing for months, appear to be getting closer to the purchase of the property by the state. This would be a very positive outcome, especially for the tourism sector”, MEP Kelly said.
The Conor Pass, renowned for its mountain scenery and natural beauty, spans 12km, connecting Dingle town and Kilmore Cross on the north of the Dingle Peninsula. The 1,400-acre property encompasses grazing land, forestry, and three lakes – Lough Atlea, Lough Beirne, and Peddlar’s Lake, making it a haven for tourists, walkers, and cyclists.
However, Kelly underscores that the lands should be acquired at a reasonable price.
“This is great opportunity for the government to show leadership in preserving nature, particularly during the contentious debates surrounding the EU’s Nature Restoration Law.
“There is obviously still a cost benefit analysis to be done and I sincerely hope that the current owners are realistic in their asking price. That said, I hope an agreement can be made as it would be another fantastic addition to the Kerry’s beautiful landscape and scenery”, MEP Kelly added
