The decision was announced at Motorsport Ireland’s headquarters in Dawson Street, Dublin on Wednesday morning.
Late last year Tralee, Limerick and Waterford were identified as one of three locations to potentially host the Irish round of the FIA World Rally Championship in 2025.
The local Kerry bid team, made up of former World Rally Championship co-driver, Killarney’s Paul Nagle, outgoing Tralee Chamber Alliance president Nathan McDonnell, and other Kerry-based motorsport professionals who hold extensive FIA World motorsport Championship experience identified the Munster Technology University North Campus as an ideal location to host the event.
The Kerry team also included members of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kerry Motor Club and Killarney and District Motor Club.
Late last week, a team of senior officials from Motorsport Ireland and the World Rally Championship promoters visited all three sites.
The local bid team faced opposition from strong Waterford and Limerick proposals.
Following the appraisals, the team of officials made their decision and announced it at a press conference in Dublin on Wednesday morning.

“This will be an extremely exciting day for the World Rally Championship and indeed a very proud day for Irish Motorsport,” said Motorsport Ireland president Aiden Harper ahead of the conference.
The staging of a full WRC rally in 2025 is dependent on Government funding, and Motorsport Ireland is seeking in the region of €15m in funding for a three-year deal to bring the event to Ireland.
Just as newspapers and magazines are paid for, digital editorial content will also have to be paid for.
