Last Friday 1st December Competitors, Service crews, Marshals and countless spectators made the trip to Killarney for the annual running of the Killarney Towers Hotel Historic Stages Rally. The leadup to the rally was fever pitch with the sense of excitement palpable in the air. One of the many people who travelled to spectate at the rally was Darryl Chambers from Fivemiletown, County Tyrone.
Darryl made the journey in his camper with his rally-mad 14-year-old son Jyden and a family friend. On arrival to Killarney Friday evening they parked up adjacent to the service park and bedded down looking forward to the rally the following morning.
Tragically Darryl passed away in his sleep during the night with his little boy Jyden by his side. News of Darryl’s untimely passing filtered through to the rally organising team as the morning progressed and left a dark cloud over proceedings for everyone involved.

As well as his son Jyden, Darryl also leaves behind Sierra, his 10 year old daughter who he adored.
Darryl was a true rally fan. He spent many weekends away with his children on various adventures chasing events around the 4 corners of Ireland. These are memoires that his children will hopefully remember and cherish for the rest of their lives.
Darryl’s friends have set up a go fund me page for his children Jyden and Sierra in a bid to help them financially through the next few weeks and months. All monies raised will go towards the children’s education and help them restart their lives following the untimely passing of their Dad. The link to the page is as follows:

Darryl’s passion for life, family and motorsport will no doubt resonate through our rallying community. We would ask all to donate what you can to Darryl’s children and share the go fund me page details to everyone. Our rally family may be small but is very powerful in heartfelt circumstances.
On behalf of all at Killarney and District Motor Club our most sincere sympathies go to Darryl’s children, family and friends at this difficult time.
