National and West Coast championships sucesses for Kerry crews

Championship success for Kerry drivers

Organisers of two of the biggest rally championships in Ireland have published provisional results for the 2023 season and there are several Kerry drivers and co-drivers in line for top awards.

Noel O’Sullivan has been conformed as the second-placed co-driver in the Triton Showers Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship.

Two all-Kerry crews have finished second in their respective classes.

Mike Quinn and Kieran Doherty were runners-up in Class 14 and Dave Slattery and Denis Coffey were second in Class 13, all driving Ford Escorts.

They will pick up their awards at the National Rally Championship prizegiving in Athlone on November 18.

In the locally sponsored Top Part West Coast Rally Championship several more Kerry competitors are set to receive silverware at the Rose Hotel prizegiving ceremony in January.

Quin and Doherty won class 14 in this popular regional championship while Slattery and Coffey were second in Class 13. Ger O’Brien and John Liston were third in the same category as were Sean Enright and Kevin Doherty in Class 12 .

Eddie Kennelly and Paul McGlinchey secured second in Class 11R.

Newcomers Declan O Sullivan and Jonathan O’Shea were second in Class 11 in their Volkswagen Golf.

Gearoid O Regan was runner-up in Class 3 in his Honda Civic.

Katie Quinn was already declared the Woman in Motorsport Ireland champion but she is also in line for top Class 2 honours in her older Civic.
