PCRS Rallysport’s Philip Allen seventh in Spanish championship rally

Irish rally team PCRS Rallysport’s driver Philip Allen seventh in Spanish championship rally

Irish rally team PCRS Rallysport has finished seventh in Rallye La Nucía-Mediterráneo – the penultimate round of the Spanish SuperChampionship

Their driver, Phillip Allen from County Tyrone ran inside the top ten all weekend and recorded one of his best results to claim seventh spot in the 12-stage rally.

His event was not without drama.

On Friday Allen and co-driver Dale Furniss were seventh on the opening test but picked up a puncture.

That left them without a spare wheel for the following two 28-kilometre stages.

The Hyundai i20 Rally 2 crew spun on SS2 and lost brakes towards the end of the same test which dropped them to eighth.

They were also being careful as another puncture could spell the end of their rally. Still, they recovered to seventh ahead of the Friday evening service halt – one place ahead of Belgian legend Freddi Loix.

The same three stages were repeated under the cover of darkness on Friday night where they held on to their seventh position.

On Saturday the PCRS Rallysport crew maintained seventh overall, despite being caught in a stage blockage early in the day.

At the conclusion of the event’s 12 stages the Northern Irish/Welsh team held seventh overall and finished just behind Belgian legend  Loix  – 22 seconds was the gap.

Former Formula One star Jos Verstappen, a rally winner in Belgium, was two places Behind in a similar Skoda Fabia RC2 to Loix’s.

Both Allen and Furniss were presented with special gifts from event organisers as a thank you for attending the event.
