Heartbreak for Jason O’Connor: Weather forces cancelation of ferries – international rally debut plans scuppered

Co-driver Jason O’Connor was due to make International debut in Portugal this weekend
The Ballyhar man was supposed to be on co-driving duties for Andrew Mc Court in a Ford Escort MK2 in the Rally Legends Rally Luso Bussaco event in Portugal that runs from Friday night until Sunday afternoon.
However, the weather has forced the cancellation of all ferries between Ireland, France and Spain.
He explained:
“We won’t make it out. Andrew’s on his way back to UK as all sailings out of Ireland to Cherbourg in France and Bilbao in Spain were cancelled for the next two days. Only sailing was Holyhead.
“Andy is living in London and car was back home here in Ireland to get prepped.”
“So he came home to Ireland to collect the car the weekend and was to head for Bilbao in Spain today. That was cancelled so then came up with the idea to sail to Cherbourg and I was to fly out later today to do recce tomorrow but unfortunately he wasn’t going to make it down on time to start the rally so no more we can do,”
He is best known for sitting alongside Raymond O’Neil on Irish events this year.
