Kerry crews eye West Coast success in Clare

The penultimate round of the Top Part West Coast Rally Championship takes place in Clare next weekend and several Kerry competitors find themselves as class contenders.

Two Kerry crews – David Slattery and Denis Coffey and Mike Quinn and Kieran Doherty – lead class 13 and 14 respectively in their Ford Escorts.

Eddie Kennelly and  Paul McGlinchey head to Ennis in second place in Class 11R.  However, with class leader Craig Rahill is set to move to a Class 2 Ford Fiesta for the Clare Stages, it opens the door for the North Kerry-based crew to take the category lead if they can put in a could performance on September 24.

Gearoid O Regan is in third place in Class 3 in his Honda Civic. It is the Ballyheigue man’s first attempt at the Top Part West Coast Championship.

Mike Quinn’s daughter Katie Quinn leads the Women in Motorsport category but will face the returning Aoife Raftery in Clare. The Galway driver has been concentrating on FIA European Championship events this year and has not contested a round of the Top Part West Coast Championship since the Laois Heartlands Rally in June.
