Ballymac Vintage Day event report

On 6th August last , Ballymac Vintage Club held another very successful Annual Car & Honda 50 run. This was the 13th year of this run, and as has proven popular in recent years, the morning began with a  cars & coffee style meet at O’Riadas Bar & Restaurant Ballymacelligott.

Cars & bikes started to arrive from 9am, and there wassomething for everybody to enjoy with over 120 vehicles registered on the day. The oldest car on the day was a 1950s Ford Popular. With all the major brands represented, there were a few unique marquees also to be found. All cars & bikes were welcome on the day , so we had vintage, classics , future classics and of course those just entering the vintage category from the 1990s too, all well represented.

Proceeds on the day were in aid of Recovery Haven Cancer Support House, which is based in Tralee, providing free cancer support services to the people of Kerry. A grand total of €5,820 was raised across the weekend , which also included a bucket collection in Castleisland on the day prior to the run.

Ballymac Vintage Club would like to thank our main sponsors: Browne’s Agri Steel & Builders Providers , BG Motor Ltd Killarney, O’Riadas Bar & Restaurant Ballymac, as well as numerous other local businesses who sponsored raffle prizes on the day: GMIB Insurance, Boyles Hardware Tralee, Garveys SuperValu, Castleisland Tyre Centre, Irish Vintage Scene, B Safe Training, Premier Motor Factors, Agri Auto Parts, The Motor Shop Killarney, CRL OIL, CC Lubricants.

After taking the opportunity to have a good look around all the cars & bikes, the convoy of around 100 vehicles left for a nice local scenic drive, taking some of the lesser travelled roads in the direction of Castleisland, before continuing to the halfway point in Brosna village. After a brief stop to stretch the legs, the convoy continued via the Three Counties Scenic area on through Mountcollins and finished in Knocknagoshel. The local Knocknagoshel Meals on Wheels team put on a great spread for everyone to end a very enjoyable day out.

Several spot prizes were awarded on the day to participants :
