O’Carroll is a double winner at Armoy road races

Road racer Anthony O’Carroll was a double winner at the Armoy Road races in County Antrim on Saturday.
Despite saying ahead of the meeting that he was going to take a conservative approach to the final road race of the season as he did not want to risk damaging any of his two bikes ahead of the Manx Grand Prix next month, he took two race win and sixth place in his three races on Saturday.
Riding his Kawasaki ER6, the Ballyduff man took a start-to-finish win in the Junior support race, the opening race of Saturday’s race programme.

“I just got the head down at the start,” he said. “I was able to manage my lead over the last few laps and control my own race.”
Later in the day, he rode the same bike to sixth in the SuperTwin race. That four-lap race was won by road racing legend Michael Dunlop, just one of his five race wins over a weekend where the local ace dominated proceedings.
Lady luck was on O’Carroll’s side for the Senior Support race. Once again, he led from the start but after four laps his Kawasaki ZX6R’s gearbox started giving trouble.
However, the race was red-flagged due to a minor incident on that fourth lap and O’Carroll was declared the winner.
“I was out of the race,” he added, “There is no way I would have finished it.”
Next up for O’Carroll is the Manx Grand Prix from August 20 to 28. This will be his debut on the famous Isle of Man TT course and the Grand Prix is considered the last stepping stone ahead on an entry in the TT itself next June.
