Kerry interest in the Cork ’20’ International Rally

Cork ‘20’ International Rally

This weekend’s Cork ‘20’ International Rally will have a significant bearing on the destination of the 2023 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship.

Championship leaders Callum Devine and his Muckross co-driver Noel O’Sullivan head to Cork are the on-form men heading into the penultimate round of the championship.

A hat-trick of wins on the Circuit of Ireland, Rally of the Lakes, and Donegal International Rally gives them a 14-point lead at the top of the ITRC standings.

Last year’s winners Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes will carry the number one door card on their Hyundai i20 through Cork’s fast stages.

After crashing out during their Donegal International Rally defence, the reigning Irish Tarmac champions know victory on the Cork ‘20’ is essential if they are to put pressure on leaders Devine and O’Sullivan.

A non-finish for any crew could spell disaster as the series edges closer to its Ulster finale later in August.

Devine and O’Sullivan finished 8.4 seconds behind Moffett in Cork 12 months ago but

Other Kerry crews on the entry list include the East Kerry trio of Mark O’Leary/Andrew Cronin (Toyota Starlet0; John Hickey/Michelle Hickey (Fubaru Escort RS 4×4)and Bob Moran/Eoin Collins (Ford Escort Mk2).North Kerry is represented by Tralee’s John Corrigan/Niall Mulcahy (Opel Corsa) while Miltown’s Amy Burke/Emel McNamara (Ford Fiesta Mark 1) and Fossa’s  Sam Leech/Barry Attridge (Opel Corsa) represent mid-Kerry.
