Rob Duggan gave his friend Mikie Galvin the best possible pre-wedding gift by taking a start-to-finish victory finish on Sunday’s Imokilly Rally in East Cork.

Galvin is best known for co-driving for Keith Cronin on British Rally Championship events.

Both competitors went to school together,  started rallying together and have previously won events as a team.

However, the last time they worked together as a team was the 2019 Rally of the Lakes but they decided to team up one more time ahead of Mikie’s big day in two week’s time.

“We dont get to this too often,” said Aghadoe man Galvin and the end of the event.

“Rob is my best man in two weeks’ time, so this is brilliant, such a good day.”

Conor Murphy and Sean Collins were third in a similar Ford Escort to Duggan’s making it two all-Kerry crews in the top three.

Shangolden’s Ed Synan, with Killflynn’s Denis O’Connell on the notes were 11th overall in another Escort.

Abbeydorney co-driver Mike Cleary was  18th overall and third in class  alongside Neil Tohill in a Mitsubishi Lancer E10. It was their first time working together.

Tralee Quick Fit’s John Corrigan finished 36th overall in his Opel Corsa. Co-driver Niall Mulcahy came home from The Netherlands, especially for the rally.

Ballyduff’s Michael Dowling and Stephen Buckley finished 48th overall and ninth in class 13  in their Ford Escort Mk1.

Milltown’s Amy Burke and her Kilkenny co-driver  Emel McNamara won class 11R in their Ford Fiesta Mark 1.

Brothers Ken and Ray McKenna, although from Adare, are Kerry Motor Club members, and finished second in class 10 in their Peugeot 205 Gti.
