Lorcan Hanafin conquers the toughest race in Thailand
The Bquik Racing Team tell the story of how Lorcan Hanafin, the Leeds-based driver with strong Tralee connections conquered the toughest race in Thailand
A few weeks ago, we had never heard of Lorcan Hanafin and we knew Chris Chia’s name only through the Absolute Racing side of the operation. In fact, we didn’t meet them in person until last Monday.

But no longer are they unknown quantities to us. These two drivers have written themselves into the B-Quik Absolute Racing history books after a truly stunning weekend.
But even more so, they have written themselves into the history books of the Bangsaen Grand Prix after an astounding weekend where they came and utterly conquered the toughest races in Thailand.
In Saturday’s Super Car GT3 Race 1 they took a cool, calm and controlled win after an inch perfect drive. From pole position they simply didn’t put a foot wrong, never breaking stride as the Safety Car, twice, wiped out the hard-earned cushions they had eked out at the front.
But that was nothing to what Chia and Hanafin achieved in Sunday’s Race 2. Without a laptime to their name in qualifying for Race 2 after the car went in the wall during the previous session, they started from the back of the grid.

Utterly undaunted, the pair combined superbly to slice through the field, fighting position by position on a demanding track where passing is almost impossible, ending with a gripping battle for P1 where there was pass and repass, to win by just nine tenths of a second.
One of the greatest races in the history of Bangsaen, this was an incredible performance, the crowds on the edge of their seats and the commentators worked into a frenzy as the atmosphere exploded. This famous race has new heroes to add to its roster of illustrious winners.
