Darragh Crean to make Isle of Man debut later this month

Tralee-based motorcycle racer Darragh Crean will make his Isle of Man debut next month.

He has placed an entry for the Southern 100 Road Races which take place on a closed road circuit between July 10 and 13.

He has acquired a second race bike for his trip to the Isle of Man.

Such is the nature of road racing it is considered almost necessary to enter two classes in order to get more seat time and more time to learn track layouts.

As well as racing his usual Aprila SuperTwin he will also race a near-standard Yamaha R6 on the island.

“The R6 is a stocker, it has race suspension and exhausts, and I will try and get more power out of its engine over the winter,” he said.

“You really need two bikes for road racing but sometimes a near-stock bike is better than a race bike on the roads.”

The Southern 100 meeting will mark the start of a very busy period for the Tralee racer.

He returns from the Isle of Man on the night before the two-day Donny Robinson Memorial races at Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland.

The next round of the Ulster Superbike Championship is set for July 15 and 16.

Two weeks later he will travel to County Antrim to make his Armoy Road Race debut.
