There is always a Kerry connection:  LONDON CONCOURS

The London Concours presented by Montres Breguet opened its doors on Tuesday to a crowd of thousands in stunning sunshine for the first day of the event.

Hosted at the Honourable Artillery Company, a five-acre oasis of green close to Bank, the event played host to the most incredible collection of vehicles ever gathered in the City.

In total, around 80 cars were on display across eleven classes. The main Concours event classes include ‘Evolution of Aero, ‘Golden Age Coupés, ‘Make Green Great Again, ‘Bespoke Automotive’ and ‘Built to Race, For the Road’.

The London Concours’ expert committee of judges picked the winner of the Built to Race, For the Road category Sponsored by Adrian Flux Insurance.

They picked the Subaru Impreza WRC S12C owned by Kerry man Thomas Fitzmaurice.

It is the same Subaru Impreza S12C that Australian rally star Chris Atkinson drove to third overall in the 2008 Rallye Monte Carlo.

The Australian used the car several times in the early part of 2008 and also finished third in Jordan with the same car. But it is the Monte Carlo livery that has been chosen by its current owner.

It was restored in time for Déjà vu Tralee in late May last year and that was the car’s last public appearance before it was exhibited in London this week.

After its WRC career, the car found its way to Ireland and was used by drivers like Eamonn Boland, Derek McGarrity and Darragh O’Riordan.  The Cork driver won the 2011 and 2012 Rally of the Lakes with the car ensuring it also has Kerry provenance – because there is always a Kerry connection.
