Bob Moran’s 18th start in the West Cork Rally
Glenflesk’s Bob Moran holds a unique West Cork Rally record.
This weekend will mark his 18th time entering the legendary two-day St Patrick’s Weekend rally.
Only local West Cork drivers and Welsh drivers have contested the event on more occasions.
Jerry O’Mahony holds the all-time record of 38 starts. Wille McCarthy is second on 23 starts.
Bob Moran’s 18th start this weekend will put him on par with John Dalton, Brian Davies and Gwndaff Evans.

Joining Bob on 18 starts this weekend is West Cork’s Denis Cronin.
Only Marftin Daly (22), Gerard O’Connell (21); Steve Roberts (21); Liam McCarthy (20); Frank O’Mahony (20); Leonard Downey (19); Bob Fowden (19) Sam Hawkins 919) have more starts in Cloanakilty according to e-wrc.com but there could be date missing from this archive too.
Nevertheless, 18 starts on one event is impressive. He is the only non Cork or non Welsh driver in the list of top 20 most starters on the Rally.
“I have competed in West Cork more times than my [home] Rally of the Lakes,” he told Kerry Motorsport News.
