The 2022 Irish Tarmac Rally Championship will be launched at the Gleneagle Hotel on the Friday of Historic Rally next week

The Irish Tarmac Rally Championship will return on next weekend’s Killarney Historic Rally.

The popular event run by Killarney and District Motor Club marks the opening round of the TROA’s Historic Tarmac Championship.

A launch event for the 2022 Irish Tarmac Championship will take place in Killarney’s Gleneagle Hotel at 9 p.m. on Friday 26 November.

Seven rounds in 2022 will follow Killarney’s end-of-year Historic Rally. Galway kicks the main championship off in February before crews face the challenge of West Cork for the first time since 2019.

The Circuit of Ireland, Killarney Rally of the Lakes, Donegal Rally, Ulster Rally, and Cork 20 complete ITRC’s 2022 calendar. All events plan to run in their full two- and three-day formats, a very exciting prospect.

Details on championship registration can be seen at the end of this press release.

ITRC Championship Manager, Paddy Flanagan:
“We are back! As ITRC manager there has been a void for the last 21 months, a void felt even more by club members, competitors, and rally fans.

“I cannot thank the member clubs, TROA directors and representatives enough for their dedication to run a full championship in 2022. It is difficult enough to run a rally in normal times never mind during a pandemic with all the extra work involved.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone in Killarney and to be part of this resurgence of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship. Roll on Killarney Historic!”

TROA Chairman, Colman Hegarty:
“It’s absolutely fantastic to see the return of the Tarmac Championship after a near two-year lay-off. As chairman, I have been really encouraged by the response from our clubs. At this stage all seven clubs that make up the Tarmac Rally Organisers Association are fully committed to running their respective events.

“For them to be in a strong position to organise and run the seven international rallies really underlines the strength of the championship.

Of course, this is due to the commitment and hard work of the clubs and event organisers so I want to thank them for that.

“I am really looking forward to meeting our competitors and stakeholders in Killarney next weekend and at all the other events throughout 2022. It’s great to be back!”
