Hanafin shortlisted for Driver of the Year award by Motorsport News
Lorcan Hanafin has been shortlisted for the National Racing Driver of the Year award by respected British newspaper Motorsport News.
For the first time in its long history the newspaper is presenting awards to drives who shone during the 2021 season across a range of disciplines and categories.
“This is not just about the people who have claimed the silverware,” explained MN’s editor Matt James.
“This is about the drivers who have given the performances that have taken your breath away.”
Hanafin, although based near Leeds, has strong connections to Tralee, the hometown of his father Dermot.
He earned his place on the shortlist after finishing second in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship after a season-long battle with eventual winner Dan Cammish. He took four wins across the 16-round series, one more than the champion but Cammish had more second and third places.
Osian Pryce has been nominated in the Rally Driver of the Year category. The Welsh driver has been a frontrunner in this year’s British Rally Championship and has been co-driven all year by Killarney man Noel O’Sullivan
“I have to thank Noel and the huge contribution he is making. The Cambrian last year was our first rally together and because of the Covid-19 restrictions we have still only done six rallies. But when I step back and look at the way we have evolved and how well it all works inside the car I have to give a lot of credit to Noel,” said Pryce.
