Croatia Rally essentials and daily timetables

The first pure asphalt event of the 2021 FIA World Rally Championship season is also one of the most eagerly-anticipated as Croatia joins the WRC roster for the first time.

Based on challenging tarmac stages around the capital Zagreb, the event is the result of “years of preparation and thousands of hours of work” according to the organising team, which is overseeing theally’s rise in status from an established regional contest to round three of the WRC season.

The first Croatia Rally was based in Zagreb and took place in 1983 in what was, at the time, Yugoslavia. Since then, the event has formed part of the FIA European Rally Championship and, while it will run out of the capital in 2021, Rijeka and Poreč on the picturesque Adriatic coast have also played host over the years.

Daniel Šaškin, president ofthe event organising committee, previously drove on the rally.

Although it’s a tarmac rally in name, crews will be braced for an everchanging road surface, ranging from clean asphalt to broken concrete.

The stages are characterised by their narrow, winding and undulating nature, while unpredictable weather could also be a key factor in the outcome.

All three legs of the Croatia Rally are based to the west of Zagreb in the areas of Samoborsko Gorje (Friday), Karlovac (Saturday) and Medvednica and Kumrovec (Sunday).
