Ballyduff-based motorcycle racer Anthony O’Carroll will make his road racing debut on this weekend’s Cookstown 100.
The Tyrone event is the only road race to run in Ireland this year after the coronavirus pandemic decimated the calendar north and south of the border.
O’Carroll’s initial plan for 2020 was to contest the Dunlop Irish Masters Championship at Mondello Park in County Kildare before trying his hand at one or two road races later in the season.
The national shutdown put paid to all plans and while the Dunlop Maters returns next weekend the Ballyduff man elected to bring forward his road racing debut.

Cookstown and District Motorcycle Club’s event was originally due to be held at the end of April. It will be only closed-road race to run in Ireland this year.
O’Carroll, who will race in the Supersport 600 class on Saturday, took in a test session at Kirkistown in County Down on Thursday ahead of today’s practice session at the Cookstown track.
The races are sponsored by former World Rally Championship driver Kris Meeke and his wife Dannielle through their KDM Hire concern.
