The long-term sponsorship agreement between cartell.ie and The Rally of the Lakes will continue for at least one more year following the sale of the car data firm to Independent News and Media (INM) in July.
INM’s Belgian parent company Mediahuis bought the vehicle history firm last month as a complement to its existing car sales website CarsIreland.ie. Locally, the international media firm also owns The Kerryman newspaper.
Cartell.ie, established in 2006, is the market leader in provision for after market services such as car parts and accessories, providing data and analytics to both consumers and the motor industry.
Several Kerry motor traders, particularly those in the Killarney district, use the service.
The Clane, County Kildare-based company has sponsored the Rally of the Lakes since 2010.
cartell.ie’s Head of Business Development Richard Lahiff confirmed this week that the new owners will stay on board as the title sponsor of the county’s biggest motorsport event for at least the 2021 event with a view to extending that even further.
“cartell.ie are definitely in for one more year,” he said. “The new owners have confirmed that to me.”
There is a possibility that the event could be rebranded under the CarsIreland.ie banner in the future, but Mr Lahiff said all sponsorship decisions going forward are now at the discretion of INM and Mediahuis.
The Rally of the Lakes did not run this year as a result of pandemic related restrictions but is scheduled to run on May 1 and 2 next season. The event celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019.
cartell.ie has been one of the rally’s longest serving lead sponsors of Irish rallying and only Shell Oil’s involvement with the Donegal International Rally in the 1980s through to the early 2000s eclipses this deal.
cartell.ie management were presented with the coveted Silver Wheel award for dedication to motorsport and commitment to the Rally of the Lakes following last year’s rally.
