The early leader of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship, Donagh Kelly, has confirmed that he will enter next month’s Rose Hotel Circuit of Kerry Rally in his Volkswagen Polo R5.
The Donegal man and his Glasgow-based Monaghan co-driver revealed an interesting programme of events that will keep them busy, at least, until the Donegal International Rally in June.
They will use the same Polo that they drove to victory in Mayo on Sunday on this weekend’s West Cork Rally and the April 5 Circuit of Kerry.
They will revert to their Ford Focus World Rally Car, they same car Kelly and Foley drove to victory on the 2018 Circuit of Kerry for the Monaghan Rally in late April before switching back to the Polo for the cartell.ie Rally of the Lakes. Other events in the pipeline include the Circuit of Munster and the Donegal International Rally in June.
“I am looking forward to Kerry,” Kelly told Kerry Motor Club at the finish ramp in Castlebar on Sunday evening, “It is always a good event, classic roads, a compact recce and a friendly atmosphere,”
Kelly has won the Circuit of Kerry twice, in 2013 and two years ago.
His current co-driver Conor Foley was alongside him for his last victory two years ago.
“Sunday’s win was a great start to the national series,” said Foley. “I am looking forward to Kerry and the classic Desmond’s Grave stage,”
Roy White and James O’Brien finished second in Mayo in their Ford Fiesta WRC and they confirmed that they too will enter the Circuit of Kerry.
Third placed Gary Kiernan, who leads the two-wheel drive category after the opening round of the National Rally Championship, said he will confirm after this weekend’s West Cork Rally if he will be in Tralee or not but that he does have every intention of entering.
“One rally at the time,” he said on Sunday evening in Castlebar.
