Kerry Motor Club’s Sinead O’Keeffe will return to rally action on Sunday’s Limerick Forestry Rally – her first rally in nine years.
The Moyvane-based Tipperary woman will co-drive for her father-in-law-Mikie O’Connor Sr in a family owned Mitsubishi Lancer.
Sunday’s rally, which is based in Abbeyfeale, takes in stages in counties Cork, Limerick and Kerry including roads near the Cordal Wind Farm on Mount Eagle.
Sinead’s last stage rally was the 2011 Circuit of Munster alongside Matthew Behan in a Peugeot 205. Her last actual event was the 2014 Kerry Rallysprint co-driving for her husband Mikie Jr in a Mitsubishi Lancer.
“I am fit to vomit with anxiety. My last stage rally was approximately nine years ago, our son Mikey was only about a year old,” she told Kerry Motorsport News.
“I have forgotten how to read a road book and use time cards. But you should do one thing every day that scares you, this frightens the s@@t out of me – not the fear of the speed but the fear of being rubbish.”
Sinead has been a member of Kerry Motor Club for around 20 years and in the past has co-driven for such well known drivers like Limerick’s Pat Ryan and the late, great Paudie Casey.
Other Kerry-based co-drivers in action include Denny Greaney who is on pacenote duty for PJ O’Connor in another Lancer and Tommy Commane who is alongside Hal Lewis in a Ford Escort.
